Year 4
Welcome to our class page!
Here you will find useful information to help support your child in Y4, such as core subject knowledge organisers, handy hints for reading at home with Y4 and weekly homework information. Detailed Curriculum outlines will also be uploaded each half-term so you can see which aspects your child will be studying over the following term.
If you need additional support when helping your child at home with maths, please remember that the APAT maths helper videos demonstrate how maths is taught at St Paulinus and across the Trust. These can be viewed on the APAT YouTube channel or via this link:
PE Days - Autumn Term 2024 Monday and Thursday
Homework and reading records are handed in on Monday
A polite reminder:
- Every child to bring a water bottle in daily to school - essential for hydration and focus.
- Read daily and record this in the Reading Record.
- No birthday sweets or goodies to be brought into school. Any items to be distributed from the school gate at collection please. Alternatively, we would very much welcome a new book for the classroom; I will add a dedication to your child inside.
Please continue to support your child by using Timestables Rockstars. It's a valuable and fun resource to secure learning.
As always, thank you for your continued support and if you need anything or have any questions, do please get in touch.

Homework:
Reading is a whole school priority. It is incredibly important that we work together to foster a love of reading for pleasure and make sure that our children are not just excellent decoders but understand what they are reading too.
Children in Y4 are expected to read at least four times a week and have their diaries signed by a parent. Tricky or new words can be noted in their reading diaries to enable the children to investigate their meaning. If your child does not find any new words in their text - the book is not challenging enough!
Homework dates:
Weekly Spelling and maths homework will be handed out every half term . Details of their tasks will be explained in class and students will bring their Homework book home to complete the work. Homework is due in the every Monday.
IWeekly times tables will be set and assessed through Times Table Rockstars. https://ttrockstars.com/
Details can also be found below of the statutory spelling word list for Y3 & Y4. The spellings set will follow our school scheme and feature some of these words each week across the whole year.
Maths homework will focus on times tables in the autumn term to prepare children for their end of Key year multiplication check.
OPTIONAL: If children would like to complete any more tasks at home, there will be an optional homework grid sheet filled with project-based tasks that they can complete over each term to match their learning in class.. This will be given at the start of each term and added below for your ease of reference.
